USD to a Chinese bank account
Paying a Chinese supplier in US dollars? Ask for their USD bank details and check the account type below. It determines how the payment is sent, when an invoice is needed and how long it takes. Payments start at $25 per invoice.
The account determines the route
Account number starts with NRA or OSA
SWIFTThese are non-resident and offshore accounts. They cannot receive a domestic USD transfer inside China, so the payment goes by SWIFT.
- Invoice
- Attach the supplier’s original invoice before sending — SWIFT will not carry the payment without it.
- Timing (estimate)
- Usually two working days. Allow 2–3 days if the recipient’s bank has no direct SWIFT connection, such as a small rural bank.
20-digit onshore account, no NRA or OSA prefix
Domestic USDOnshore accounts with a 20-digit number and no NRA or OSA prefix can receive domestic USD transfers in China. Other account formats need separate route confirmation.
- Invoice
- No invoice is needed upfront for the domestic route. The recipient’s bank will contact the supplier for documents and may check them before crediting the account.
- Timing
- Usually the same working day when sent before about 3pm Singapore time. Public holidays in Singapore or China move it to the next working day.
Any other account format: we have not confirmed a USD route for it. Check the account number with your supplier — do not shorten it or remove an NRA or OSA prefix to make it fit.
The routes, the invoice rules and the delivery times all come from the bank that settles these payments. For domestic USD, the recipient’s bank contacts the supplier for documents; no invoice is needed upfront. For SWIFT, attach the invoice before sending.
What to ask your supplier for
- The registered company name and its full address, including city, province and six-digit postcode.
- The bank name, SWIFT/BIC code and full USD account number.
- The invoice showing the agreed USD amount. Attach a PDF, JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB when an invoice is required.
Keep USD and CNY details separate
Use the currency on the invoice. A supplier's USD account may differ from their CNY account, so confirm both the currency and the account before paying. Alipay and WeChat Pay receive CNY only. A bank receipt can help fill in details, but it does not replace the supplier's invoice.
When will the supplier receive the money?
On the domestic USD route, a payment to a 20-digit onshore account usually arrives the same working day when sent before about 3pm Singapore time. Public holidays in Singapore or China move it to the next working day. SWIFT usually takes two working days, or 2–3 days where the recipient’s bank has no direct SWIFT connection.
Enter the invoice amount and select your supplier below. We check availability for the chosen account and show the amount, fee and delivery estimate before you confirm. If the route is unavailable, you can keep the details and return later.
