Mercury bank alternative for firms outside the US
If your company is registered outside the US and needs a Mercury bank alternative, Unigox opens EUR, GBP and USD accounts in the company's name. Stablecoin balances sit in the same portal. US companies should stay with Mercury.
When to stay with Mercury
Your company is formed in the US
Mercury opens accounts for companies formed and registered in the US or a US territory with existing or planned US operations. Founders do not need to be US citizens or residents, though Mercury lists countries where founders cannot live. Unigox does not currently offer its services in the United States, so a US company is better served by Mercury.
Your payments go out in dollars
On every Mercury plan, the $0 one included, ACH, domestic wires, real-time payments, checks and USD international wires cost nothing to send.
You want FDIC cover and Treasury
Mercury offers up to $5 million of FDIC insurance through its partner banks' sweep networks. From a $250,000 balance, its Treasury product invests idle cash through Mercury Advisory, an SEC-registered adviser.
Mercury vs Unigox company accounts
| Topic | Mercury | Unigox |
|---|---|---|
| Who can apply | Companies registered in the US or a US territory with US operations. Founders can live abroad, except in countries Mercury lists. Crypto startups, DAOs and funds are accepted; money services businesses and crypto exchanges are not. | Companies registered outside the US that pass KYB. A crypto firm applies with its licence or registration, or a legal note on why none is needed. Countries the Unigox Terms of Service exclude cannot apply. |
| Currencies in the account | USD only. Wires sent in euros, pounds or other currencies are converted to USD before they land; Mercury cannot keep other balances. | EUR with a SEPA IBAN issued in the Netherlands or Malta, GBP with a UK account number and sort code, USD with details confirmed during setup. All in your company's name. |
| Euro and pound payments in | Converted on arrival: at the mid-market rate on Column N.A. accounts. On Choice Financial Group accounts, Mercury says intermediary banks typically add 2% to 3%. | Paid to your EUR IBAN or GBP account details, and swapped to stablecoins only when you choose to. |
| Stablecoins | The account holds fiat only. You can wire money to a crypto exchange such as Coinbase or Gemini. | Stablecoins sit in the same Business Portal as your EUR and GBP. Swap EUR or GBP to stablecoins and back, and move supported stablecoins to and from your company's Unigox Wallet. |
| Pricing | Monthly plans:
| Set for each company in a pricing plan covering account services, transfers and swaps, which Unigox confirms with you before you commit. |
| Regulation | Mercury says it is a fintech company, not a bank: banking services come from Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC. | Unigox works through two companies: UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Canada handles the local-money side and is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider; UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Panama handles the crypto side, including wallets and escrow. |

Apply with your non-US company
On the business accounts page, choose Start business onboarding, pick company accounts and apply as the company registered outside the US.
List owners, directors and signatories
List every owner of 25% or more, as Mercury's application also asks, plus directors and authorised signatories; each passes an identity check. Add registration documents, source-of-funds evidence and how you will use the accounts.
Send payers your new details
Once our team sets up the approved accounts, give customers your EUR IBAN or GBP account details in place of Mercury wire instructions. Their euros and pounds no longer turn into dollars on arrival.
Mercury bank alternatives: questions
Which Mercury bank alternative suits a non-US company?
Mercury opens accounts only for companies formed in the US or a US territory. A company registered elsewhere can apply to Unigox. After a company check it gets EUR, GBP and USD accounts in its own name, with stablecoin balances in the same portal.
Who are Mercury's competitors for accounts in several currencies?
Mercury keeps only dollars, so a company that needs euro or pound balances looks elsewhere; our Revolut Business and Airwallex pages compare two such accounts with Unigox. Unigox keeps stablecoins in the same portal as EUR, GBP and USD accounts, for companies registered outside the US.
Read the Revolut Business comparisonIs there an alternative to Mercury bank with stablecoins?
Mercury accounts hold fiat only: you can wire money to an exchange such as Coinbase or Gemini, but not keep crypto in the account. Unigox company accounts keep stablecoins beside your EUR and GBP, and you swap EUR or GBP to stablecoins and back in the Business Portal.
Can I keep Mercury for a US firm and Unigox for another?
Yes. Mercury stays with the US company for dollar payments and cards. A sister company registered outside the US applies to Unigox for its own accounts and passes its own KYB. We do not currently offer our services in the United States, so this fits founders and companies based outside it.
